Pompeii Live screenings
Information
This year the British Museum welcomes more than 450 objects from the ancient Italian cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum to the major exhibition Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum. It’s the first exhibition on Pompeii in London for almost 40 years.
At the same time, the Museum will stage Pompeii Live this summer. This will be the first live cinema event produced by the Museum from a major exhibition.
On Wednesday 19 June at 11.00, schools across the UK will have the unique opportunity to visit their local cinema for a tailor-made broadcast that is lively, interactive, educational, and designed to enhance cross-curricular learning. The show will also dovetail with a broad range of curriculum subjects at Key Stage 2 – including history, English, science, citizenship, PSHE, and art and design.
Explore the story of the fateful volcanic eruption and see how the cities were buried. Witness beautiful wall paintings, mosaics, sculptures and jewellery preserved for thousands of years; uncover art techniques of the past; and understand how the latest archaeological evidence sheds light on the lives of men, women and children in Roman society.
Screenings will take place in selected Odeon, Vue, Cineworld, Picturehouse, Empire, Curzon, and independent cinemas around the UK – they will last for approximately one hour.
