Set against the background of the American Civil War
Glory is based on the letters of Colonel Robert G Shaw,
an officer in the Federal Army during the war, who
volunteered to lead the first company of US Civil War's
first all-black volunteer soldiers. The film follows
Shaw and his men as they fight against the prejudices
not only from the Confederate foe but also from his
own Union army. The film looks at racism, prejudice
and the horror of combat during the period of the
American Civil War.
