Question 4

Shifty was made as part of the Microwave Scheme. What does this mean to the distribution?

Jezz: Shifty is an unusual film for us to acquire because of the budget and, to be honest, there's a huge amount of low budget films made and most of them are never released just because the quality is never high enough.

But I think because the Microwave Fund are so closely involved with Shifty, it meant that there were mentors and just some very experienced industry people who were giving valuable guidance to the producers and the director, all the way through from the writing of the film to being on set and helping them shoot it. And, as such, I think that's really added to the accomplished level that the film has reached.

We continue to work very closely with the Microwave Scheme which is part of Film London, and BBC Films are very much involved as well, and one of the advantages is that through the BBC they can help us promote the film and really get the message out to people that this film is coming through.

So the Microwave Scheme brings some really invaluable partners to the table for young filmmakers and I think it's a shining example of how - if you have a story that is familiar to you but may not feel like a big Hollywood typical film - there really is a root through to getting that story made and making a really tremendous film at the end of it.
