Ffilmyouth
Event information
Film Education's Emma Bull took two workshops to Ffilmyouth, a CPD event for education practitioners held on February 9th at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. This exciting one-day event was hosted by Media Education Wales and details of the two sessions are below.
Date: 9th February 2011
Venue: Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff.
This training explored:
- Coming up with story ideas: approaches to original film narrative
- In-camera editing
A free hand in filmmaking can be a blessing for the creatively minded. For those with less confidence, or even for those with plenty, complete freedom can be something of a curse: ideas are either hard to come by or too plentiful to be manageable. Simple structures help young filmmakers get their creative ideas flowing and make for more satisfying and effective filmed outcomes. This workshop explored some simple suggestions for working with story structures, with activities prompted by theories of character and narrative and designed to work on a range of levels.
In-camera editing is a simple yet disciplined approach to filmmaking. Valuable as a stand-alone technique where equipment is limited, it also offers a purposeful starting point for learning about the process of producing sequential moving images. This workshop explored the technique and its applications, incorporating one collaborative and one group practical task.

CPD
Our training events focus on giving teachers information and guidance on using film in education. Alongside the digital video training we offer nationwide, we also organise regional INSET days, which can help teachers with any level of experience get to grips with using film within the curriculum.
