Furry Facts

Skunk fact file:

High angle, close-up shot of a skunk, looking up at the camera whilst it holds onto the steering wheel of a car.

How it moves: skunks walk on four legs and some species of skunks can climb trees to make dens, they also have long front claws for digging.

What it eats: skunks eat both plants and animals depending on what’s available in each season.

Where it lives: skunks usually nest in burrows constructed by other animals, but they also live in hollow logs or even abandoned buildings. Nearly all skunks live in the Americas, except for the Asian stink badgers that have recently been added to the skunk family.

Avenging quality: they are notorious for releasing a nasty smell similar to rotten eggs that they use as a defence mechanism. The smell is contained in a fluid that they release from glands underneath their tail to spray at predators.

Fun fact: The smelly fluid released by skunks can travel as far as 10 feet!
