'Miral' is based on the novel by Palestinian-Italian writer Rula Jebreal documenting the real-life story of Hind Husseini. Husseini established the Dar Al-Tifi orphanage in Jerusalem following the partition of Palestine and creation of the state of Israel in 1948. The film stars Vanessa Redgrave, William Dafoe and Freida Pinto.
The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has a long, complex history that is directly linked to the end of the British Empire. It is a history that involves other nation states including Britain, America, the ex-Soviet Union and the countries surrounding Israel and the Palestinian territories including Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
