The Navigators
Event Information
As part of National Schools Film Week we held two special events in partnership with the London Labour Film Festival. The first was this screening of The Navigators followed by Q&A with director Ken Loach and Alex Gordon, the President of the RMT Union, hosted by film critic Ian Hadyn Smith. The Q&A examined the film as well as discussing privatization and why the issues raised in the film are still relevant today.
Date: 13 September 2012
Venue: Prince Charles Cinema, Westminster
The Navigators [15, 96]
Ken Loach’s story of Five Yorkshiremen try to survive after British Rail is bought out by a private company. When the trusty British Rail sign is replaced by one reading East Midland Infrastructure, it is clear that there will be the inevitable winners and losers as downsizing and efficiency become the new buzzwords – their lives will never be the same.
