West is West
Event feedback
Sarah Perks, Education Director, Manchester Cornerhouse
West is West is a film that teachers can use in a variety of ways in the classroom, including citizenship and history. By holding these screenings the Cornerhouse can bring in new audiences and raise awareness of what we do for teachers.
Pam Singleton, English Teacher, Hopwood Hall College, Manchester
My students are mostly from deprived areas and I have found trips such as this are a good team building exercise and a way to increase their cultural capital; it also shows them a different point of view. We have many Asian students who I think can feel left out from what you might call the dominant culture so this film was a way to include them. The visit was also a shared experience; usually with a text you engage on your own but in the past I have found that after seeing a film students are able to refer back to the experience over and over again in their learning.
