An Education

According to the Ancient Greek writer Hesiod (700 BCE) there was once a Golden Age.  For the people that lived in this perfect time one of the many delights was that there was no need of education.  This was partly because everything was easy and the land flowed with milk and honey.  It was also a perfect time because human beings treated each other well and had no need to learn good behaviour or consideration.  Such values were ‘intrinsic’.

Sad-to-say, the Golden Age came to an end.  Now we live in the Age of Iron and children need careful nurturing and educating if they are to treat others well or cope in the world.

Today major concerns surround the idea of what an ‘education’ should be.  Here is your opportunity to consider the subject.  These questions can be shared out among individuals or groups to consider and report back on or they can be used as discussion points.
