Suitable for: KS3 and KS4 (11-16)

The FILMING SHAKESPEARE resource series has been developed to help teachers make Shakespeare engaging and accessible for all learners. With current exam board and National Curriculum requirements in mind, the resources incorporate an exploration of renowned film interpretations into a study of the original texts to help students “develop their interpretive and analytical skills” (QCDA KS4 requirement).
ROMEO AND JULIET is a two-disc resource pack designed to offer students a historical perspective on filmmakers’ interpretations of this tragic love story. The pack contains a DVD of carefully selected clips accompanied by a CD-ROM featuring teachers’ notes, context sheets, activity sheets and film stills for analysis. Extracts on DVD are taken from film versions of the play dating from 1905 (Vitagraph), 1936 (Cukor), 1954 (Castellani) and 1968 (Zeffirelli) with additional online study materials guiding students towards a critical viewing of Baz Lurhmann’s1996 film version.
