Portraying Relationships

Paintings, photographs and other images that include more than one figure can tell us a lot about relationships.

The Fox And The Child is a film about friendship but the two friends can't talk to each other. Look at the film stills of the girl and the fox together. What are they doing? How are they sitting, standing or behaving together? What can you tell about the girl's feelings towards the fox from her facial expressions?

Your task is to choose an art technique and create a double portrait of a child and an animal. Your portrait could be of the fox and the girl in the film or a child with a different animal. It could even be of you and your pet.

People who look at your portrait should learn something about the child and their relationship with the animal. How will you portray emotions? Think about facial expressions, position and action.
