| In
this section students continue to explore the novel and the
film of Oliver Twist, examining issues around both texts'
context, content and construction. Through various activities,
students can look at Dickens' use of opposition and contrast,
the marketing of both the book and the film and what to consider
in adapting sections of the text for the big screen. Students
can put Dickens in the dock and debate whether he really
addressed the social problems of the time, or play an interactive
comprehension game to save themselves from prison, deportation
or worse! |
In
the clip analysis section, students can follow the link
below to watch clips from the film and answer questions
about them:
- why
were these scenes filmed in this way?
- What
impressions of the characters do you get?
- How
would you have filmed them differently?
In
addition, they can listen to what the filmmakers have to
say about their work in clips from interviews with director
Roman Polanski and scriptwriter Ronald Harwood.
