Task – conducting your own research into the history of genetics.

It was not until the middle of the 19th Century that modern genetic science was born, thanks to the meticulous study of pea plants carried out by an Austrian monk called Gregor Mendel.

It is at this point that you are invited to carry out a thorough study of genetics from Mendel to the present day.  The subject is a complex but fascinating one and the aim is that you investigate a particular part of the history of genetic science – the work perhaps of particular scientists or the implications for humankind now we have mapped the human genome and what still needs to be discovered.  It is up to you too how you choose to report your findings.  You could make them the subject of a PowerPoint presentation, an assembly, a piece of devised documentary drama, posters, a piece of discursive writing or even an animation or film.
