The Princess and the Frog

Jazz Music

The Princess and the Frog features many jazz songs. Jazz is a form of music that originated in America at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Transcript of clip

Jazz was different to most forms of music around at the time because musicians improvised the rhythms and melodies. This means that they made it up according to how the mood took them, without using any sheet music.

In New Orleans or 'Dixieland' jazz, musicians take it in turns playing their own versions of a melody. Typical jazz instruments include pianos, clarinets, trumpets, harmonicas and double basses. Watch The Princess and the Frog trailer and improvise your own piece of jazz music. Record your piece of music and play it back over the trailer.
