Apartheid and Religion
Apartheid was much more than just a set of laws designed to keep the different races in South Africa separate. It had long, deep roots. SKIN explores these in a number of ways.
In the final cut of the film, it might be easy to miss the important role that religion and religious doctrine played in Afrikaner society – in many ways directly reinforcing the inequalities between white and black. Several scenes that highlighted this were removed during the editing process. We will look at these scenes in due course.
