Script Conventions

Do you feel this is an effective opening scene for the film?  What are its strengths and possible weaknesses?

Discuss the questions it raises?
What potential conflicts between these characters does it appear to set up?
Can you think of reasons why beginning scenes from the film showing Sandra seemingly settled, with husband and young children might have been dropped? Does the scene undermine the idea of the disappointments in Sandra’s life, or offset too much the sadness of her seeming estrangement from her parents – revealed in the surprise letter.

Ext. = exterior scene
Int. = interior scene
V.O. = voice off – a voice that is heard coming from somewhere nearby but the speaker is not shown on screen
