French director Claude Berri's stunning adaptation of the acclaimed Marcel Pagnol novel is the winner of numerous international awards and is the world's most popular foreign language film ever. City-dweller Jean de Florette moves his family to the Provence countryside in the 1920s to forge a new life as a farmer. But his proud, cocky neighboring rival Le Papet schemes with his simple-minded nephew Ugolin to acquire some nearby land ensuring the novice owner never discovers an all-important natural spring on the property. A wholly captivating, emotionally powerful and beautifully photographed classic epic of innocence, evil, greed, envy and revenge.

When war breaks out in the lull of summer 1914, it surprises and pulls millions of men in its wake. And Christmas arrives, with its snow and multitude of family and army bundles. During that Christmas Eve, the unthinkable will happen: rifles will be left at the bottom of trenches and steps will be taken towards those opposite, to shake their hands, exchange a cigarette or a piece of chocolate, to wish them a "Merry Christmas".

Shot in black and white cinema verite style, this film follows a day in the life of three aimless, violence-prone, ethnically-diverse young men who hail from the same decaying housing project in Paris. Vinz, who is Jewish, is the angriest and the least intelligent of the three. North African Said is calmer, but is the most despairing about his future. Hubert is Black, and the most mature, channelling his rage through boxing. Although the trio seethes with fury over the arrest and senseless beating of an Arab friend, each manages to keep the other in check. But that changes after Vinz finds a loaded gun and the trio becomes entangled with the police, and later a group of skinheads.

A poignant story of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It is through the eyes of the precocious and outspoken nine-year-old, Marjane, that we see a people's hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power - forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. Clever and fearless, she outsmarts the 'guardians' and discovers punk. Yet when her uncle is senselessly executed - and as bombs fall around Tehran - the daily fear that permeates life in Iran is palpable.

Based on an autobiographical novel by Francois Begaudeau, Entre Les Murs is a drama that follows the year in the life of a French schoolteacher working at a High School in a tough neighborhood of Paris. Ethnicities, cultures and attitudes often clash in the classroom.
