The Princess and the Frog

The Animation Process

Traditional animators work with sheets of paper on pegboards. They usually use coloured pencils.

Transcript of clip

Teams of animators worked on The Princess and the Frog. The Principal Animators will draw the main frames of each sequence, and Assistant Animators will fill in the missing frames.

Each main character had its own team of animators. Andreas Deja, featured in the 'Animator Masterclass' is the principal animator behind the character Mama Odie.

Each scene has to be approved by the director before it is 'cleaned up' by another team of animators.

Effects Animators work on the bits of the action that aren't created by the character animators. This could be water, fires, machinery or weather.

While all this is going on, Background Animators paint the settings in front of which the action takes place.
