Three generations of women survive fire, insanity and even death in Pedro Almodovar's film. The women are sisters, Raimunda and Sole, Raimunda's teenage daughter and their mother, who dies in a fire but who miraculously appears before them. Almodovar cleverly blends melodrama, thriller and romance.
