SKIN: Prejudice

The film SKIN is all about prejudice and what happens when people with prejudices have the chance to build a society based upon discrimination.  The film shows prejudice at its most unpalatable.

If we are honest, we are all guilty of prejudice at some time in our lives.

Can you think of something that you do not like for no very good or rational reason?

Forget other races at the moment - just think about the things you can say you hate or dislike or shun in other people – it could their choice of food, or music or football team, it could be where they live, their accents, their clothes or particular behaviour.

What do you feel when you see a homeless person asking for money in the street or a person slumped on a bus or train – do assumptions crowd your thoughts and prejudiced attitudes start to assert themselves.  Are they drunk or ill and either way are they in need of help?

Happily most of us have the self-control not to act on such prejudices but the fact is we may be programmed at some deep level to look down our noses at those who are different from us. Download the activity sheets in order to explore issues relating to prejudice.
